Summary

The gripping new Jack Reacher thriller from the No。1 bestselling authors Lee Child and Andrew Child。

Gerrardsville, Colorado。 One tragic event。 Two witnesses。 Two conflicting accounts。 One witness sees a woman throw herself in front of a bus - clearly suicide。 The other witness is Jack Reacher。 And he sees what really happened - a man in grey hoodie and jeans, swift and silent as a shadow, pushed the victim to her death, before grabbing her bag and sauntering away。

Reacher follows the killer on foot, not knowing that this was no random act of violence。 It is part of something much bigger。。。a sinister, secret conspiracy, with powerful people on the take, enmeshed in an elaborate plot that leaves no room for error。 If any step is compromised, the threat will have to be quickly and permanently removed。

But when the threat is Reacher, there is No Plan B。。。

Jack Reacher sees a woman being pushed in front of a bus。 Another witness says she jumped and that it was suicide。 Reacher won’t accept what the police say and is determined to discover why the woman was murdered and it is being covered up。 He quickly learns that it is larger than one woman and once again Reacher is determined to assist the underdog。 No Plan B is the twenty-seventh book in the Jack Reacher series。 As readers of this series know, no one can outsmart or get one over on Jack and th Jack Reacher sees a woman being pushed in front of a bus。 Another witness says she jumped and that it was suicide。 Reacher won’t accept what the police say and is determined to discover why the woman was murdered and it is being covered up。 He quickly learns that it is larger than one woman and once again Reacher is determined to assist the underdog。 No Plan B is the twenty-seventh book in the Jack Reacher series。 As readers of this series know, no one can outsmart or get one over on Jack and this story is no different。 Lee has developed a storyline that was easy to fall into and fun to unravel。 Adventure books are always great because readers get to live vicariously through the characters while staying perfectly safe in their own lives; this book is no exception。 My kindle almost turned its own pages as the book revealed its secrets。 。。。more

This is number 27 Jack Reacher series about a retired Army military police investigator who now travels the country with nothing but a folding toothbrush and a calling to serve justice。 I want to thank Delacorte Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book which is due to be published in late October。 The story begins with Reacher in Gerrardsville, Colorado to see a Civil War history display at the local museum。 As he is walking downtown he happens to be in the right This is number 27 Jack Reacher series about a retired Army military police investigator who now travels the country with nothing but a folding toothbrush and a calling to serve justice。 I want to thank Delacorte Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book which is due to be published in late October。 The story begins with Reacher in Gerrardsville, Colorado to see a Civil War history display at the local museum。 As he is walking downtown he happens to be in the right place to witness a murder。 Other witnesses believe that it was suicide as a woman appeared to drive in front of a bus, but Reacher alone saw that she had been pushed。 He also saw the killer take her handbag。 Reacher gave chase and briefly retrieved the purse, but the killer’s partner intervened and they escaped with the bag。 What Reacher had seen when he looked inside an envelope was some papers about a wrongly accused inmate who was due to be released from a privately run prison in Mississippi。 But why would that lead to this woman’s murder? Reacher means to find out, and the men running the prison mean to use an army of guards to stop him。 The chase takes Reacher cross country from Colorado to Winslow, Mississippi, with the prison henchmen dogging his steps。 Their are two other storylines that neatly converge at the end。 One involves a 16 year old runaway boy who takes a bus from California to Mississippi to see the father he has never met。 The other is a tale of vengeance with a man tracking down the men he holds responsible for the death of his son。 The first story I rather liked, the second not so much, and I didn’t feel that it really added a lot to the story。 As to the why the papers about the prisoner release should lead to multiple murders, that kept me guessing until the very end。 It was not at all what I expected。 Overall this was a great addition to the Reacher series with all the elements that we have come to love and expect。 But the great thing about the Reacher series is that although the basic story elements are always the same, these are not cookie cutter books, each is very different in how the story unfolds and that is what keeps us coming back for more。 。。。more

I wished I liked it more。 I think I needed an emotional connection to the storyline。 The revenge plot line was too gruesome and I didn't understand the background enough to be invested。 I wished I liked it more。 I think I needed an emotional connection to the storyline。 The revenge plot line was too gruesome and I didn't understand the background enough to be invested。 。。。more

Another in the Jack Reacher Series, which follows the ex US Army Military Police Major as he travels the country with only a tooth brush and the clothes on his back。 In this installment Reacher arrives in Gerrardsville, Colorado after hitching a ride on a truck delivering alfalfa bales to visit a museum。  He witnesses someone push a woman under a bus and stealing her purse。 He cooperates with the local police but when he finds that they closed the case as an accident, he  does what he does best。 Another in the Jack Reacher Series, which follows the ex US Army Military Police Major as he travels the country with only a tooth brush and the clothes on his back。 In this installment Reacher arrives in Gerrardsville, Colorado after hitching a ride on a truck delivering alfalfa bales to visit a museum。  He witnesses someone push a woman under a bus and stealing her purse。 He cooperates with the local police but when he finds that they closed the case as an accident, he  does what he does best。 A fast read that will keep you guessing。 I received a complimentary copy of this book。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。 。。。more

Reading the latest Jack Reacher novel is irresistible escapism and satisfying entertainment at its best。 "No Plan B" is the second in the Reacher series co-authored by Lee Child and his brother。 Andrew。 The transition of authors is bound to have some speed bumps with consistent writing style and the understanding and portrayal of Reacher, and it does。 For the familiar high octane plot all is good。 For capturing the heart and soul of Reacher, it's getting there。 Jack is coming back。 "No Plan B" f Reading the latest Jack Reacher novel is irresistible escapism and satisfying entertainment at its best。 "No Plan B" is the second in the Reacher series co-authored by Lee Child and his brother。 Andrew。 The transition of authors is bound to have some speed bumps with consistent writing style and the understanding and portrayal of Reacher, and it does。 For the familiar high octane plot all is good。 For capturing the heart and soul of Reacher, it's getting there。 Jack is coming back。 "No Plan B" finds Reacher's meal interrupted by a tragic and horrific incident。 Jack gets involved and so begins this intense and suspenseful story。 "No Plan B" is hard to put down as Reacher's quest to put things right doesn't skip a beat。 The writers cleverly tell the story using three plot lines that upped the intensity。 Thank you Netgalley, publisher and authors for the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my review。 。。。more

💙💙💙💙I am a huge fan of the Jack Reacher series。 So I was beyond excited to get a chance to read this ARC。 As usual there are multiple storylines going only one of which Jack himself is in。 That is until the end where everything violently comes together。 There wasn't much character building for Jack in this novel。 But I don't think it took anything away from the story or novel itself。 I especially liked the teenage boy Jed。 His character was entertaining as he fumbled is way across the country。 I 💙💙💙💙I am a huge fan of the Jack Reacher series。 So I was beyond excited to get a chance to read this ARC。 As usual there are multiple storylines going only one of which Jack himself is in。 That is until the end where everything violently comes together。 There wasn't much character building for Jack in this novel。 But I don't think it took anything away from the story or novel itself。 I especially liked the teenage boy Jed。 His character was entertaining as he fumbled is way across the country。 I definitely enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next one。 I also like the TV series Reacher on Amazon Prime。 It is much better than the movies。 Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Random House Publishing for allowing me to read this advanced copy。 No Plan B will be available October 25, 2022。#netgalley #leechild #jackreacher #readmorebooks 。。。more

No Plan B, the new Jack Reacher crime thriller by authors Lee and Andrew Child, is an entertaining read not lacking in ambition and imagination。 It’s another step in the right direction toward restoring the Jack Reacher franchise to its former glory。As Jack Reacher continues drifting across the country, he stops at the small Colorado town of Gerrardsville to visit some Civil War related museums he’s heard of that interest him。 There he witnesses a man shove a woman to her death beneath the wheel No Plan B, the new Jack Reacher crime thriller by authors Lee and Andrew Child, is an entertaining read not lacking in ambition and imagination。 It’s another step in the right direction toward restoring the Jack Reacher franchise to its former glory。As Jack Reacher continues drifting across the country, he stops at the small Colorado town of Gerrardsville to visit some Civil War related museums he’s heard of that interest him。 There he witnesses a man shove a woman to her death beneath the wheels of a city bus。 Reacher pursues the man on foot into an alley, intent on confronting him and holding him for the police。 But fate and an accomplice intervene, which allows the killer to escape。 Then when he returns to the scene to contact the police to tell them what he saw, the local detective assigned to investigate the woman’s death informs Reacher that the authorities are ruling the death a suicide based on the statement of another witness。 That doesn’t sit well with Reacher, who knows what he saw and despises injustice。 So, he begins his own investigation。 That leads him to another recent death in the town of a man believed to have died a natural death from a heart attack。 But as Reacher keeps digging, he learns of a longstanding connection that existed between the heart attack victim and the murdered woman and he grows even more suspicious, believing someone also murdered the man。 Eventually Reacher establishes a private prison in Mississippi, has some connection to both deaths and soon he is on his way to Mississippi with the ex-wife of the dead man to determine what the connection is。It’s easy to imagine the challenge of coming up with new ways to get Reacher, a retired military cop who drifts aimlessly across the country, into believable situations where he must use his past investigative skills and knowledge to right wrongs that the local cops either can’t or won’t address。 Especially in a series this deep。 But I think this may be one of the most imaginative plots in a long while。 Another thing about the book that impressed me is it’s also one of the most ambitious Reacher novels in a long while in that the story features two subplots that move parallel to the main plot throughout the books until all three threads naturally intersect near the end。 I can’t recall any previous Reacher book like it in that respect。 And the subplots do much to add complications to the story to grab and hold the reader’s attention。Minimal character development has always been a hallmark of the Reacher novels。 That has changed little with No Plan B。 The books in the series are not character-driven as much as action-driven, which has always been part of the appeal。 So, Childs hasn’t ever spent much time on character development, except for Jack Reacher and a precious few recurring characters that have appeared over the life of the series。 But here the authors have spent enough time with the characters involved with the subplots to make them three-dimensional。 And that’s another thing I like about this book。This review is based on an uncorrected advance review copy, not the final copy for publication。 So, perhaps the editors will make a few changes before the book’s release。 But one thing I noticed worth criticizing is the copy I read contains more than a few blatantly British colloquialisms and manners of speaking that feel a little jarring because they don’t fit with a story set in America with only American characters。 Even given Reacher’s history growing up on Marine Corps bases all over the world as a military brat, it’s unlikely he would have adopted specifically British ways of speaking into his speech。 There’s nothing wrong with two British authors writing a book set in America and filled only with American characters, but they should avoid the use of terms and colloquialisms almost only ever spoken and written in British English。 As only one example, “fishmonger” is a mainly British term for a storekeeper who sells fish which in my entire life I’ve never heard uttered in the United States, though Americans may have used the term in the colonial days。While I enjoyed Better Off Dead, I liked No Plan B a little more and see it as another step in the right direction toward restoring the Jack Reacher franchise to its former glory and perhaps winning back some of Reacher’s past fans。 It’s well worth a read。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book, as I do with all Jack Reachers。 It was a road story, with Reacher and his companion-du-jour traveling to find answers for a mystery that began somewhere else。 The book followed two other unrelated parties traveling separately to the same end location as Reacher, and it was very cool to see things happening that the characters didn't realize were related events but that the reader could see were。 These other groups' motivations and connections to the main plot were als I really enjoyed this book, as I do with all Jack Reachers。 It was a road story, with Reacher and his companion-du-jour traveling to find answers for a mystery that began somewhere else。 The book followed two other unrelated parties traveling separately to the same end location as Reacher, and it was very cool to see things happening that the characters didn't realize were related events but that the reader could see were。 These other groups' motivations and connections to the main plot were also left as mysteries to the reader until deep into the book, which is always fun and interesting。 The book also has several well-written, memorable fight scenes, as readers of the series have come to expect。As a result of all the different groups it followed, the book did have a lot of moving parts, which could be a little hard to follow in the first half, and I think the ARC I received was missing a scene (I will check when it's published)。I really appreciate this years-long apprenticeship Andrew is doing with his brother to learn the character deeply and how to write for him from the man who created him。 I feel like Andrew will be able to take over very successfully, and I'm excited that the series will continue past Lee's retirement。 。。。more

Book 27 in Lee Child's Jack Reacher series is another winner。 As usual, the story starts with Reacher passing through a small town, planning to stop for breakfast and then continue on his journey。 While crossing the street, he sees a woman fall in front of a bus。 From most angles, it appears a suicide, but from Reacher's vantage point, he sees the man who pushed her and then stole her purse。 Reacher chases the killer, almost retrieves the purse, sees a large envelope with notes and a picture, be Book 27 in Lee Child's Jack Reacher series is another winner。 As usual, the story starts with Reacher passing through a small town, planning to stop for breakfast and then continue on his journey。 While crossing the street, he sees a woman fall in front of a bus。 From most angles, it appears a suicide, but from Reacher's vantage point, he sees the man who pushed her and then stole her purse。 Reacher chases the killer, almost retrieves the purse, sees a large envelope with notes and a picture, before the killer's friends beat Reacher back and the man escapes。 Reacher tells the police what he saw, but they don’t believe him。 Not unexpected, something Reacher often runs into, police wanting the easy solution rather than the right one。 Reacher has no place in particular to go and has never been able to let injustice stand so decides to follow the clues he has and see where they lead。 Soon, he is in the middle of an arsonist out for revenge, a foster kid on the run, a secret conspiracy, and murderers who aren't smart enough to realize their biggest threat is a motivated Reacher。Lee Child's writing style is personal and touching in a way few authors manage。 Always within a page--a paragraph--I am hooked, but not this time。 Andrew Child gallantly tried to mimic his brother's style, did good-not-great, but did manage to hook me within 20% of the book and I couldn't stop reading。 There were lots of clever connecting the dots and Reacher's trademark fight scenes。 If this Child team keeps writing this well, I'll read everything they turn out。 。。。more

As always, another fantastic Reacher story。 It hits all the notes and then some。 The beginning of the story is a little unrealistic that Reacher just happens to be somewhere in Colorado and sees the first thread of a major conspiracy。 He keeps tugging and works to uncover everything。 If you accept the premise and a few other points in the book, it flows well and pulls you along until the end。 Reacher always keeps his moral compass and this time is no different。

When you read a Reacher book, you don’t need a Plan B because it holds your interest from first page to last。 How do I love a Reacher story? Another satisfying entry in this long-running but still fresh series。 As he did so successfully in Past Tense, the author weaves several narrative threads, only one of which tracks Reacher himself。 But never fear, they all come together in your classic Reacher culmination/orgy of violence。 Reacher is at his laconic best as he implacably tracks down yet another group of wanna-be wreakers of havoc, and the side characters are great too。 I especially got a kick out of Jed, the hapless teen who is a Another satisfying entry in this long-running but still fresh series。 As he did so successfully in Past Tense, the author weaves several narrative threads, only one of which tracks Reacher himself。 But never fear, they all come together in your classic Reacher culmination/orgy of violence。 Reacher is at his laconic best as he implacably tracks down yet another group of wanna-be wreakers of havoc, and the side characters are great too。 I especially got a kick out of Jed, the hapless teen who is also slouching his way to the apocalyptic wrap-up。 I'm terrible at figuring out what is coming in a book, so the various twists, revelations and unveilings all took me by surprise, despite the abundance of clues (in retrospect, lol)。 I found the transition from Lee to Andrew pretty seamless, with no diminution of author skill or reader enjoyment。 Fans of this series will not be disappointed, for sure! Dissatisfied by the lack of investigation into a murder he witnessed, Reacher takes matters into his own hands。 Meanwhile, a fixer seeks his own violent brand of justice for a shoddy product he purchased, and a young boy embarks on a hazardous bus trip。 The three plots lines move ever closer over the course of the novel。 NO PLAN B is the first story born of the collaboration of Lee and Andrew Child that felt like a vintage Reacher novel to me。 Despite the three plot lines, the story was nicely f Dissatisfied by the lack of investigation into a murder he witnessed, Reacher takes matters into his own hands。 Meanwhile, a fixer seeks his own violent brand of justice for a shoddy product he purchased, and a young boy embarks on a hazardous bus trip。 The three plots lines move ever closer over the course of the novel。 NO PLAN B is the first story born of the collaboration of Lee and Andrew Child that felt like a vintage Reacher novel to me。 Despite the three plot lines, the story was nicely focused on a group of baddies who were introduced early。 Reacher relied on his intelligence as well as his physical power to remove his many opponents from the playing field。 In earlier books in the series, Reacher often connected with his romantic partners over the course of the story。 In the coauthored books and in the short story “New Kid in Town” by Andrew Child in Don Bruns HOTEL CALIFORNIA anthology, Reacher is all about the casual hookup。 While I miss the built up of the earlier connection, the pacing of Reacher’s romantic rendezvous in NO PLAN B was super fun。 The opening chapter, which involved a covert meeting with six participants, might not have enough character development to immediately hook a reader new to the series。 However, some of the hired muscle, particularly Pep and Harold the hulk, and the motel desk clerk were beautifully drawn。 I found the ending a bit rushed。 Nevertheless, I really enjoyed seeing Reacher do what he does best in this latest installment。 I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 Thanks to Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House, a division of Penguin Random House LLC, for providing an Advance Reader Copy。 。。。more

3。5 stars, rounded up。 A bit confusing to start, but basically an on-the-road story with a couple groups converging and a bit of a messy ending。

In No Plan B, Jack Reacher is in Gerrardsville, Colorado, to see a Civil War Museum when he witnesses a murder intended to look like an accident。 Reacher chases the killer, and each thing he learns about the victim draws him deeper into a larger, wicked series of crimes with dangerous people trying to stop him。As one victim after another seemingly unconnected people die, Reacher gradually connects the threads between them of friendship and employment, but who will believe him? Other witnesses, who are reliable locals, testify that the first murder was either a horrid accident or a suicide--directly contradicting Reacher。The breakneck pacing and parallel stories of unrelated characters converge as Reacher closes in on why the victims were targeted。 Unrestrained by due process and probable cause, Reacher conducts a cross-country investigation in his own bare-knuckle, full-throttle, follow the clues way that delights readers。Authors Lee Child and Andrew Child explore the What-ifs of private for-profit prisons in memorable, shocking, and horrifying ways。 This collaboration of these brothers delivers a satisfying 27th book in the Jack Reacher series,Thank you, Lee Child, Andrew Child, Random House Publishing Group, and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy。 This book comes out in October, 2022 on the heels of the exciting Amazon Prime 8-part series called “Reacher,” which stars Alan Ritchson in the title role。 。。。more

Again, a Reacher book, that is too action driven and not enough plot to be satisfying。 Earlier in the series, I always understood Reacher’s motivations, but here it seems like we see see Reacher’s physical prowess but not sure why it is so constant。 There are too many bodies, not sure why nobody ever seems to notice them。 These books keep my interest, but I need Reacher to return to his more cerebral persona。 Thank you Netgalley for tge opportunity to read and review a book by one of my favorite Again, a Reacher book, that is too action driven and not enough plot to be satisfying。 Earlier in the series, I always understood Reacher’s motivations, but here it seems like we see see Reacher’s physical prowess but not sure why it is so constant。 There are too many bodies, not sure why nobody ever seems to notice them。 These books keep my interest, but I need Reacher to return to his more cerebral persona。 Thank you Netgalley for tge opportunity to read and review a book by one of my favorite authors。 。。。more
